ABCD convenes three times a year and discusses one or two major feline infectious diseases at each meeting. The panel foresees finalising the guidelines for the major infectious diseases in cats by 2008.

Feline infectious diseases

Guidelines will be established for the following major feline infectious diseases:
Feline panleukopenia, rabies, feline leukaemia, feline rhinotracheitis (caused by feline herpesvirus and caliciviruses), feline immunodeficiency, feline infectious peritonitis and Chlamydia/Bordetella infections

Expected timetable of guidelines adoption:

March 2008: new Feline immunodeficiency virus
October 2007: Feline leukaemia virus
March 2007: Feline calicivirus
September 2006: Feline Herpesvirus-1
June 2006: Feline panleukopenia

Avian influenza in cats

During the ABCD meeting of March 2006, an avian influenza task force was set up, under the guidance of Etienne Thiry. The task force has drawn up detailed guidelines and recommendations for veterinary practitioners when faced with a possible case of H5N1 in a cat.
