Tadeusz Frymus

Born on 21 November 1950, Tadeusz Frymus qualified from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Warsaw Agricultural University, in 1974. After qualifying, he started working on infectious diseases of animals at the same faculty as a clinician, lecturer and researcher. Many of his scientific activities were connected with vaccinology.

From 1984 to 1986, he was an Alexander-von-Humboldt fellow at the Institute of Microbiology, Veterinary Medical School Hannover, where he studied the role of the dermonecrotic toxin of Pasteurella multocida in the pathogenesis of porcine atrophic rhinitis, as well as the immunoprophylactic possibilities of this disease. He also cooperated with other German scientific veterinary institutions such as the Institute of Schwarzenbeck, Oldenburg. Other subjects of scientific interest included immunology (bovine leucosis, trichinellosis in gnotobiotic mice, porcine ascaridiosis), equine immunology (ontogeny of the immunological response in foals, immunological defects) and swine immunology (the role of cells in lung and mammary secretions, atrophic rhinitis in pigs, rabbits and sheep).

Since the early 1990s his main interests concern the viral diseases of cats (leukemia, immunodeficiency virus infection, infectious peritonitis) and dogs (distemper).

From 1990 to 1996, he was vice-dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Warsaw. From 1996 to 1999 he was head of the Clinic of Infectious Diseases and from 1997 to 1999, also the head of the Department of Infectious Diseases.
