Albert Lloret was born on 19 April 1968 in Barcelona, Spain. He qualified in Veterinary Medicine at the Veterinary Faculty of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1990.
After 7 seven years in small animal private practice he returned to the Veterinary Faculty of Barcelona, as an associate professor of internal medicine. One year later he gained the full position of staff clinician in the Internal Medicine Service at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. He works as a clinical instructor in internal medicine teaching final year veterinary undergraduates, interns and externs.
His particular interest in feline medicine developed during his time in private practice: in 1990 he won a national award for young veterinarians for a paper reporting the first cases of feline immunodeficiency virus infection diagnosed in Spain.
He is member of the European Society of Feline medicine since 1999 and active member of the Spanish Feline Medicine Working Group (GEMFE). He is author and coauthor of several papers, case reports and research papers in national and international journals and lecturer on feline medicine topics. Specific areas of interest are infectious diseases and oncology, in particular molecular diagnosis on feline viral diseases and feline injection site sarcomas.
In 2005, he started working on first radiation therapy unit available for companion animals in Spain. Since January 2006 he is resident of the ECVIM-CA to obtain board certification in internal medicine.
